He just looked at me like that – Wilshere reveals how he felt when Fabregas embraced Messi

Former Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere has revealed how he was in awe to see his then teammate, Cesc Fabregas very close to Lionel Messi.

A 19-year-old Wilshere was in the Arsenal squad in 2011 when they faced Barcelona, and the former England midfielder produced an outstanding performance in the game.

Arsenal won 2-1 at the Emirates in the round of 16 first leg and Wilshere played a starring role when up against Barcelona midfield duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Wilshere said he could not believe it when he looked over and saw Messi before the game.

“In the tunnel I was looking at him and thinking ‘oh my God, that’s Messi’,” the former Arsenal midfielder told talkSPORT.

“This was at the Emirates, the first one. I was behind Cesc (Fabregas) and Cesc and him are like best mates. So those two embraced each other and I’m just there thinking ‘wow’.

“I was 19. It was that same game I got man-of-the-match.”

He then joked: “He looked at me like that after the game.”
