Former Manchester United and Manchester City star, Owen Hargreaves has compared Chelsea defender, Reece James, with Blues icon, Michael Essien, in terms of power, strength and quick feet.
Hargreaves made the comparison following Chelsea’s Champions League 3-3 draw with Zenit on Wednesday night in Russia.
Chelsea drew against Zenit, thanks to a brace from Timo Werner and a strike from Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, had played James in an unusual central midfield role against Zenit, with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic injured and Ruben Loftus-Cheek rested.
Speaking about James, Hargreaves told BT Sport: “He reminds me of Essien playing in there [defensive midfield].
“Powerful. He can cover ground, play on his own, get up against people one-vs-one, he’s such a great player.”
Hargreaves added: “[No weakness in his game] Nothing. Nothing. I don’t think he’s got one.
“He’s the most complete right-back (in England). He can play (in midfield) without question.”
