Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said that he expects captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, to perform at the level that he can after featuring in the Gunners’ Europa League round of 16 second-leg 1-0 defeat against Olympiakos on Thursday night at Emirates.
Aubameyang, who dropped from Arsenal’s starting XI that defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 last Sunday, missed vital chances for Arteta’s side as Olympiakos beat the Premier League side, thanks to Youssef El-Arabi’s goal.
However, Arsenal qualified for the quarter-final ahead of Olympiakos on a 3-2 aggregate, having won 3-1 in the first leg against the Greece side last week.
“I hope it doesn’t,” Arteta told a post-match press conference after the game when asked if Aubameyang’s wastefulness could have been as a result of a hangover from last weekend’s incident.
“We have moved on from that.
“He started the game today, and we expect him when he does play that he performs at the level that he can.”
Arsenal’s fixture is against West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday.
