The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called on Aba residents to vote according to their conscience in the Saturday 27th March, 2021 bye-election for Aba Federal Constituency.
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization said it was desirous of a violence-free poll, urging politicians to emulate Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
DAILY POST reports that the election is expected to produce replacement of late Ossy Prestige.
In a statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, he said desperate politicians should not truncate the will of the people.
“Ndigbo are aware of the importance of this election, and Aba-Enyimba is very critical towards solving the myriads of economic challenges facing Ndigbo in this pandemic crisis.
“The irresistible nature of Aba is expected to come into play in 27th March elections; the Enyimba indomitable spirit should be encouraged for the protection of Aba votes, nobody should turn Aba into theater of war zone.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide declares that desperate politicians intending to obstruct the expected free, fair and credible election in Aba through mobilization of hoodlums, use of violence and vote buying to force themselves against the will of Aba people will crash on 27th March 2021.
“We are aware of desperate attempts to lure security agents into unscrupulous and unprofessional actions to advance the wishes of unpopular party in the Aba bye-election tomorrow but it will fail.
“INEC is advised to to be totally independent and ensure Aba votes count,” he said.
He added that “Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s peaceful disposition is second to none in Southeast. We urge other politicians to emulate his calmness in the face of tribulations.”
