A couple of artists recently left some unofficial merchandise in the gift shop of Trump Tower in New York City.
Amid a slew of "Trump" t-shirts, two artists dropped off unauthorized items like Ku Klux Klan hoods, rubber sheets (presumably so the pee doesn't stain), and a Russian flag. They also left postcards which call Vladimir Putin the 45th President of The United States.
"We thought the tourists coming in to buy some stuff, especially people from other countries, should get the whole story of who the president is, because the items in the Trump store don't accurately reflect the person," one of the artists told Gothamist.
The administration of actual 45th United States President Donald Trump, as you may know, is under investigation for its ties to the Russian government, and he recently gave a speech (in Trump Tower) during which he equated counterprotesters with white supremacist rioters.
Reporters from Gothamist wrote that they tried to buy an unauthorized postcard from the store and employees called security. After that, Gothamist reports that employees seem to have cleared the unauthorized items. We reached out to Trump Tower for comment, but didn't immediately hear back.
